How We Teach Phonics.
In order to further improve reading at Bishops Lydeard Church School we have adopted Read, Write, Inc Phonics.

The phonics chart is displayed in each classroom and used to practise speed sounds daily. In addition speed sound cards are also available on the tables for the children to use.
Reception also build a further display as they learn each new sound.
Each lesson consists of:
REVIEW, TEACH, PRACTISE and APPLY
Assessment
Individual tracking documents are completed for each child at the end of each half term but we also complete assessments when observations show that children are ready to move on in their phonics learning. The outcomes are analysed to inform next steps for children.
Spelling
Once children have moved from Phase 6 phonics, they are taught spelling through the Spelling Shed Progression scheme.
