“It takes a whole village to raise a child.” …an African proverb

Bishops Lydeard village is a large and attractive village,
which extends below the south western limit of the stunning Quantock Hills
and is located 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Taunton, Somerset.

There is so much that the village has to offer the school and so many links where the school and our enthusiastic children help the village. These amazing charities, churches and businesses are just a few of the lovely things that our village and school offer.

The local CO-OP is at the heart of the village. They support the school through fundraising and providing exciting activities in school for the children- fruit kebab making is a favourite!

All classes from the school visit the West Somerset Railway during the year. We have been lucky enough to go on the Flying Scotsman and sing carols next to the trains. There is so much historical and educational benefit for us that we have included trains on our school logo.

We are incredibly lucky that our lovely village has its own library. The village use it as a place to learn and it is very popular. The children regularly visit the library and they are fantastic at setting reading challenges, providing amazing resources and inspiring children with a love of reading.

In a quiet and idyllic part of the village lies Dunkirk Memorial House. This Royal British Legion property houses the most amazing residents and carers. The children love going to the house to sing to the residents, take part in craft activities and hear the amazing history and legacy that the residents have left on the world. The children have also been involved in the Archie Dementia project and Dunkirk house have allowed us to come in and invest in their residents. It truly is a magical place for the children.

Conquest Centre is situated in the heart of the Somerset countryside. Overlooked by the Quantock hills and surrounded by the magic of nature, this is an environment where all are equal, no judgements are made and space is given for the possibility to flourish. They work to respond to the needs of people with disabilities and other additional needs, welcome the community, embrace the family and engage with nature.

They are a leading Somerset charity which has been dedicated to delivering activities with horses since 1965, and these incredible animals remain at the core of all the work they do. The horse, being free from the complexities of human nature, is the most honest, challenging and compassionate facilitator there is, and truly brings a touch of magic to any encounter. Interacting with horses can massively improve health and well-being, be hugely empowering, and quite literally change people’s lives!
