Summer Term 2
Year 5 had a successful time during Enterprise and Arts Week- we raised £43 with the sale of our coasters.
The children also created some lovely WW1 pictures based on the art of Paul Nash.
Year 5 have had a busy week on school camp. We went to the Charterhouse Centre where we were given the opportunity to go caving, gorge walking, shelter building and take part in archery, team building games and many other activities.
The children had a great time and showed great team building skills, friendship, endurance and respect. The children made memories that will stay with them forever. Well done to everyone for a very successful week.
Summer Term 1
The past few weeks have been very busy in Year 5!
In Maths we have been looking at decimals (up to 3 decimal places) and linking this to our learning on fractions and percentages.
We are also starting our unit on persuasive writing and are working towards writing a persuasive piece to answer the question ‘Was Robin Hood a hero?’
We started our persuasive writing with a WOW lesson. We created persuasive posters to convince schools not to ban break times! The class were very persuasive!
We have also been developing our understanding of relationships and respect during our weekly Jigsaw sessions. We have been looking at how we relate to people, who the trusted adults are in our lives, the ways in which people show each other respect and what we need to think about as we prepare to spend our week together on year 5 camp.
We start each Jigsaw session with a ‘calm me’ script. We sit together and as the chime sounds we concentrate on our breathing. We have learnt the techniques for slowing and controlling our breathing and relaxing our bodies so we feel ready to learn.
Jigsaw is a brilliant PSHE (personal, social, health and emotional) scheme as it allows all of us to feel that we can talk about our thoughts and feelings in a safe space. Over the year we have looked at many important aspects of life and learning. As class we really embraced fighting racism, talking about money and its importance for happiness in life and how we are all different but all equal.
Below are some photos of our Jigsaw work, our Jigsaw related displays and our Jigsaw puzzle piece.
Welcome back everyone! We have a busy term planned so please keep checking the website to see all of the lovely things we are up to!
This term we are learning ‘Robin Hood’ as our talk for writing text. We made Robin Hood hats for our WOW and have been learning actions to help us remember the story.
We had visit from Little Knox, who came to speak to us about anaphylaxis, so we would know what to do in an emergency.
This term we are looking at ‘Heroes and Villains’. We will be looking at Robin Hood and the Middle Ages and then the heroes of WW1.
We have made a class WW1 display and will be adding our own silhouette pictures in the next few days. Please look back at the website to see some of our artwork.
Spring Term 2
World Book Day!
We won the prize for ‘Best class participation!’ Well done Badger Class!
Another busy few weeks!
We started the term with the WOW for our new story ‘The Rainbow Serpent’ by creating Aboriginal paintings.
We have also been making ‘volcano explosion’ pictures using the technique of ‘ink-blowing’.
First Aid week was very exciting as we got to go inside an ambulance, learn basic first aid skills, hear about the work of the air ambulance and learn about what to do in an emergency.
We have also had some snow days!
We have also been enjoying our weekly Jigsaw sessions and year 5 have shown true maturity throughout our discussions. It is always a pleasure to take part in our Jigsaw discussions as it allows us to spend time together as a class and to talk to each other. Well done year 5- you continue to make me proud.
Please see below for some photos of our learning.
